About Opportunity International
Opportunity International provides opportunities for people in chronic poverty to transform their lives.
Their strategy is to create jobs, stimulate small businesses, and strengthen communities among the poor. The method is to work through indigenous partner organisations that provide small business loans, training and counsel.
Their core values are respect, commitment to the poor, integrity and stewardship. Opportunity International strives to reach the world's poorest people through its micro-enterprise development programmes. Recognising that the large majority of the world's poorest people are women and that they contribute decisively to the well-being of their families, Opportunity International makes it a priority to support programmes that serve the particular needs of women.
Donations from 21st Century Leaders were used by Opportunity International’s rural community banking and micro credit partners in Mozambique.
The vision of their programme is to support activities that promote income generation and increase livelihood opportunities amongst poor people in urban Mozambique.
Their work is particularly directed at poor women in recognition of the strains that HIV/AIDS places on the economies of households, the extend family network & communities.
