About Adopt-A-Minefield
Every 30 minutes, of every day, someone finds a landmine by accident & either loses their life, or suffers horrific injuries. Over 90% are innocent civilians. One third are children.
Landmines also severely impede and disrupt development in poor countries struggling to recover from conflict. In this way landmines indirectly affect millions of people. It only costs about £1 to clear a square metre of minefield. This contribution has cleared 2'000 square metres of landmines.
Adopt-A-Minefield is a campaign of the United Nations Association of the USA, which engages individuals, communities and businesses in the United Nations' effort to resolve the global landmine crisis. They help save lives by raising funds for mine clearance & survivor assistance, and by raising awareness about the landmine problem. Adopt-A-Minefield seek national and international sponsors to adopt minefields that the United Nations has identified as being in urgent need of clearance.
