How we have helped?

$6,128 has been raised by 21st Century Leaders, from the sale of Whatever It Takes products. These funds were given to KCDI as unrestricted funding, in order that they can fund the overheads, that are most difficult to get other funders to support.

In 2008 Chris Vale from our pro bono lawyers Rouse was introduced to KCDI by Charlotte. Chris later ran a marathon and raised over US$1,500 for KCDI and for the benefit of another orphanage SCIM Reap.

In 2008, KCDI also received £11,000 from anonymous donor, who was originally introduced to Charlotte di Vita MBE by HRH Princess Anne and then to KCDI. 21st Century leaders then paid for and arranged for KCDI's Director to attend a presentation at the donor's offices in London, which resulted in critical funding that helped the charity at a difficult time of funding crisis.

21st Century Leaders also introduced KCDI to Reach Out To Asia (ROTA), arranging for representatives to visit Cambodia so that they could begin funding, as well as a cross cultural relationship involving Cambodian performing arts.

In April 2009, KCDI received $40,000 from ROTA, with a further $20,000 in August 2010 as a result of their partnership.

Students from KCDI performed traditional singing, dancing and music in front of international celebrities at the ROTA Royal Gala Dinner in October 2009.

In February 2011, around 30 high school students from five schools in Qatar travelled with ROTA to Cambodia on a cultural exchange trip to the Kampot Traditional Music School for Orphaned and Disabled Children. 21st Century Leaders financed the Director of KCDI's trip, so that she could meet with the new ROTA consultant and choose a new school director and sett up the board and building partnerships for their school.

Kaloko Trust

How have we helped?

$15,492 of funds were raised by 21st Century Leaders from the sale of Whatever It Takes products.

Funds raised supported the Kandulwe community in rural Zambia to run a community school for 160 of their children. Before funding the school consisted of 2 derelict rooms without proper roofs.  With the funding Kaloko Trust built 2 permanent classrooms and 2 houses, improving the facilities and teaching and allowing them to apply for government-funded teachers.

In subsequent years the school went on to achieve the best national results average in Zambia, despite being a remote community school in the far North of Zambia as better school facilities attracted better teachers and encouraged students to attend school regularly.

How have we helped?

$95,382 has been raised by 21st Century Leaders, from the sale of Whatever It Takes products.

In May 2003, 21st Century Leaders Founder & Director Charlotte di Vita MBE, was chosen as a Goodwill Ambassador to Nelson Mandela Childrens' Fund.

Initially 21st Century Leaders donated funds to the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund to support the work of Bethesda House, a centre for HIV positive children run by the Salvation Army, and its outreach project in the community of Soweto (see details below).

Thereafter the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund asked 21st Century to donate funds, on a non restrictive basis, to allow the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund to determine where funds are most needed. The Trustees of 21st Century Leaders agreed this due to the special relationship between 21st Century Leaders Foundation and the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund going forward.

In 2011 the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund asked that funds raised by Whatever It Takes royalties be used to fund the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Fund.

Life Line and Rape Crisis PMB

How have we helped?

$58,896 of funds were raised by 21st Century Leaders from the sale of Whatever It Takes products.

Money donated by 21st Century Leaders has provided training for counsellors in both rape crisis and HIV/Aids. The counsellors are based at 4 sites in the Msunduzi (Pietermaritzubrg) City Health area, providing emergency assistance and accurate information to rape survivors, through the provision of pre-and post-test counselling services for HIV testing and access to post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and support.

These funds will allow LifeLine Rape Crisis PMB to establish a model of good practice in the provision of

counselling services relating to HIV/Aids in Pietermaritzburg. It will also be used to ensure that poor people have increased access to affordable and adequate basic health services through the municipal health system. With particular focus on HIV/Aids and gender issues to provide sup- port services for rape survivors.

Lifeline is a national organisation with 20 centres and 15 satellite centres around South Africa. LifeLine-Rape Crisis is a lead partner in the CINDI (Children in Distress Network) which focuses on children’s needs in relation to HIV/Aids.

The high standard of counselling at Lifeline-Rape Crisis has been recognised by other counselling organisations in the country – and in April 2003 Lifeline-Rape Crisis was invited to train a group of counsellors from South Africa, Botswana and Namibia in rape crisis counselling principles and methods.

With the grant received from the 21st Century Leaders, the project was able to expand into the provision of counselling and PEP services to rape survivors. Although LifeLine has been working with women and girls for three years this project now means that 4 Counsellors were placed in 4 strategic sites to provide services specifically for rape survivors. In addition the Counsellors will be trained to qualify as Social Auxiliary Workers.

Corey Taylor from Slipknot introduced 21st Century Leaders to ChildFund International, asking that we raise funds for ChildFund to build a school in Mozambique. 21st Century Leaders contacted the CEO of VANS shoe brand, which is owned by VF Corporation, asking if they would partner with 21st Century Leader Corey Taylor to produce a VANS classic canvas shoe design. VANS kindly agreed to do so, raising $35,303 from the sale of this shoe and other Whatever It Takes shoe designs, in order that the school needed by the Mazivela village could be constructed.

School Construction Project, Mozambique

Funds raised by 21st Century Leaders financed the construction of a 2-room school in Mazivela, Mozambique which will help to educate some of the 781 children within the community. To date all the schools in the area have been built by parents from local materials which are prone to sever damage during heavy storms. During the strong winds the buildings become unsafe and have been known to collapse.

How have we helped?

The funds were raised by 21st Century Leaders, from the sale of Whatever It Takes products.

Funds from 21st Century Leaders were used in Northern Uganda and the Niassa province of Northern Mozambique giving poor communities the opportunity to work themselves out of poverty.

As part of a 4-year programme in Mozambique, Oxfam have helped poor farmers grow enough food to sustain themselves and have trained them in sustainable farming. Oxfam bought & distributed maize, ground nuts & rice seed to up to 4'450 farming families.

They set up 13 seed banks ensuring that families have ongoing seed supply and so become less reliant on Oxfam to provide seeds yearly. They have organised 'learning exchange visits" so that farming knowledge can be easily passed between growers. Oxfam also provided nutritional advice. Over a 4-year period they expected to help over 7'000 families, about 35'000 people in five of the poorest districts of Niassa.

A computer system upgrade meant that LIFEbeat opened up a better dialogue between people who share the common goal of helping to bring the life saving message

Elton John Aids Foundation

How have we helped?

In August 2005, 21st Century Leaders funded its music consultant Will Moore, to organise a special charity concert by the Scissor Sisters. This concert raised £42,000 and the funds were donated to the Elton John Aids Foundation.

21st Century Leaders has specifically funded programmes in South Africa, helping deliver better healthcare, food and education opportunities to 70,000 children, as well as providing them with the psychosocial support they need to cope with the trauma around them. Supporting children also means supporting their families: that’s why EJAF also helps find sustainable sources of income for those caring for orphaned or vulnerable children.

EJAF is building on a decade of its support for palliative and home based care before AIDS drugs were available to now scale up antiretroviral treatment for adults and children at provincial level.  Young women are the most at-risk for acquiring HIV, so finding ways to lessen their vulnerability to the disease is another focus of EJAF funding in South Africa, as is supporting services targeting the most vulnerable communities.
