How have we helped?

The funds were raised by 21st Century Leaders, from the sale of Whatever It Takes products.

Funds from 21st Century Leaders were used in the Niassa province of Northern Mozambique giving poor communities the opportunity to work themselves out of poverty.

As part of a 4-year programme in Mozambique, Oxfam have helped poor farmers grow enough food to sustain themselves and have trained them in sustainable farming. Oxfam bought & distributed maize, ground nuts & rice seed to up to 4'450 farming families.

They set up 13 seed banks ensuring that families have ongoing seed supply and so became less reliant on Oxfam to provide seeds yearly. They have organised 'learning exchange visits" so that farming knowledge can be easily passed between growers. Oxfam also provided nutritional advice. Over a 4-year period Oxfam expected to help over 7'000 families, about 35'000 people in five of the poorest districts of Niassa.

About Oxfam

Oxfam works with others to overcome poverty and suffering. They are an independent organisation who acts as a catalyst for overcoming poverty.

To achieve the greatest impact, they work on three inter-linking fronts:

• Saving lives by responding swiftly to provide aid, support and protection during emergencies
• Developing programmes and solutions that empower people to work their way out of poverty
• Campaigning to achieve lasting change.
