How have we helped?
The funds were raised by 21st Century Leaders, from the sale of Whatever It Takes products.
CARE requested that 21st Century Leaders funding be used to fund CARE's community based micro finance, in the Nampula & Inhambane districts of Mozambique. From 2008-2011 CARE aimed to reach over 10,000 people in these 2 provinces, mainly targeting the rural population not served by previous financial markets and women's groups, to help them overcome economic gender barriers.
CARE is a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty. They place special focus on working alongside the poor to help escape poverty.
CARE fights poverty and injustice in over 70 countries and help more than 59 million people each year to find routes out of poverty. CARE’s mission is to create lasting change in poor communities and they put money where it is needed most.
With more than 60 years’ practical and hands-on experience, their programmes tackle the deep-seated root causes of poverty, not just the consequences.
This often involves working across a range of areas where people's needs are very tangible - provision of clean water, health services and teacher-training, for example. But it can also involve helping people to be masters of their own situation - strengthening their ability to influence decision-makers or demand their rights to crucial services or resources.
Women are at the heart of CARE's community based efforts to improve basic education, prevent the spread of HIV, increase access to clean water & sanitation, expand economic opportunity and protect natural resources. CARE also delivers emergency aid to survivors of war & natural disasters, and helps people rebuild their lives.
